Conference overview
During the last few years, many cities and regions have developed their virtual models in order to tackle the new challenges of urban and regional development: the amount of data is increasing day by day and changing constantly, society requests more efficient and sustainable development policies and strategies, a deeper integration and cooperation by the Administration bodies is required, cities and regions need to be present in a global world, citizens want to take part in the design of their cities,
Aware of these needs, the “1st International Conference on Virtual City and Territory” was held in Barcelona in 2004 (http://www-cpsv.upc.es/ctv ), the 2nd edition taking place in Concepcin (Chile) (http://www.ubiobio.cl/2ctv ) in 2005.
The “3rd International Conference on Virtual City and Territory” will take place at the end of October in Bilbao (Spain) and will follow the path initiated in previous editions. This conference is organized by LABEIN-Tecnalia in collaboration with the Centro de Política de Suelo y Valoraciones (CPSV) of the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluñta (UPC).
This 3rd edition will focus on the most recent technological advances in modelling, analysis and management of urban and territorial planning. It will allow professionals to share experiences about technical and operational achievements.
Consequently, this congress is aimed to researchers from universities and technological centres as well as to professionals from software companies, services providers, utilities and public bodies.
The conference will be structured according to two axes:
- Current state of the technology and forecasted evolution.
- Application of the technology.
Concerning technologies, the following research areas are suggested:
- Integration of GIS and Virtual Reality technologies.
- Cities and territory modelling techniques.
- Virtual city and territory: Potential and limitations.
- Semantic Data Models in City and Territory.
